Dear Jelly,

thank you for your message!

If you are applying as an au pair to the USA, you always need to get an agency to take care of the J1 visa application. We recommend only using the agencies on the state designated sponsor list: https://j1visa.state.gov/sponsors/sponsor-by-country/?program=all. You should choose your country and the program is au pair program and you will see those agencies that have representatives in your country.

If the host family recommends you an agency, you can always check if the agency is on the state designated sponsors list and contact the agency via the contact information they provide on their official website and check up if the agency is working with this family or not.

As USA is a popular destination and au pairs need the agency, unfortunately there are some scammers too. That is why it is good to be alert if the family seems too good to be true, or if they want to proceed very quickly and start demanding that you transfer money via western union.

Please have a look at our instructions how to avoid scammers from our FAQ: https://connectaupair.world/faq.php?q=180

And in our community there are some discussions about the scammers as well: https://connectaupair.world/community/filter/?t=122

Hope this helps and just let me know if you have any further question!

Kind regards,

Cara Jelly,

Saluti,

Taina, dal team di cAP
