A que compromisos se compromete la au-Pair?

Hola Isabel,

I think the au pair and the family should agree in advance how many hours per week they will be looking after the children and if there are any other tasks such as light housework. The au pair should be treated like an extra member of the family, given a room and days off and invited on family trips and days out. They should feel welcome in the home.

Hi dear Isabel,

basically I'd confirm what Jennifer said, just going to add few more details. "Au Pair" is a french word meaning "on equal terms". More precisely, he/she has to be respected as an equal family member, not a worker or a servant. However, Au Pair has slightly different duties in some countries. In China it is a bit different than in United States for example.

As an Au Pair in China, your duties and obligations would be to spend no more than 30 hours per week with the youngest member(s) of the Host Family, by teaching English (or any other language the Host Family specified) through play. Notice I didn't use "work" but "spend time". You are not required to cook, do the house errands or drive the car.

In return, Host Family has to provide a fully furnished room with stable Wi-Fi connection, meals three times per day, a day and a half off each week, and the pocket money of minimum 1,500 RMB per month. Depending on the duration of the Au Pair's stay, some Host Families will also offer round trip flight tickets, medical insurance and language classes.

All of these things should be specified in the contract between the Host Family and the Au Pair, in order to avoid possible disputes later on. To make sure everything goes smooth, I would recommend using a reputable agency.

Kind regards,
